The benefits of building a garden on Feng Shui principles can be very rewarding to the owner, say experts. “When you practice Feng Shui, to design your garden, you're simply accumulating and directing the ‘flow’ of ‘sheng chi’. You're also working to avoid Shar chi—Sheng chi 's counterpart, sometimes referred to as ‘killing breath’. Shar chi comes in straight, sharp blows and disrupts the balance and harmony of carefully accumulated Sheng chi. Balancing your landscape as the source of your garden's chi deserves first consideration in gardening Feng shui. According to Shri Rohit Anand, a Feng Shui practitioner: “A few basic things need to be kept in mind while planning for a garden. Balancing the five elements of wood, fire, earth, metal and water is one important principle. To incorporate these elements one can build a pond or pool of water, have a bronze statue for metal, trees and shrubs for wood, plenty of red and orange colour for fire and earth for earth,” Seth explains. Such a garden has many benefits and one can use the principles to suit one’s requirement. There are pointers for every need like personal relations, family and children, their well-being, fame, wealth and prosperity. Here are a few tips on Feng Shui garden: • Divide your home into the eight life areas like north, northeast, east, southeast, south southwest, west, northwest. Each area symbolises some personal growth. One can activate the corner of one's liking and need and expect cures accordingly. • A well-designed garden can transform the area into a gold mine and increase one's cash flow. Here are a few points to enhance one's wealth and riches. • Locate the main southeast sector of your garden. It may be at the side of the house, the back. It is the place of wood so plant plenty of bushes and trees there. If the main southeast corner is missing because you live in a semidetached or row house, do not fret, you can still have a money garden. • Locate the Southeast sector of the front and backyard of your garden. • Use a combination of flowers in the garden. Plant flowers which bloom at different times of the day, night and year. To activate this area of life, one should use appropriate flowers and colours. Dandelions are considered very beneficial and give good health, protect the family and also symbolise money. Geraniums are said to be highly beneficial flowers. Red ones attract prosperity. Choose plants that are plentiful and look rich and vibrant. Great colours are plants with red, purple and royal blue flowers. Stay away from plants, which are frail, difficult to grow, thorny, and are weeds. Once the areas are located, the fun begins. First decide what money or abundance represents to you. Is money synonymous with beautiful roses or with an array of wild flowers? Use your intuition for your garden and only use the Feng Shui principles as a guideline.
